Honesty in the Middle of the Process

When he had put saliva on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, 'Can you see anything?' And the man looked up and said, 'I can see people, but they appear like trees, walking.'

Mark 8:23-24

Lord God, our Father, we acknowledge our utter dependence on you. You know the places where our sight is still dim, where we see only shapes and shadows, and where our hearts are still waiting for wholeness. Forgive us for pretending we have everything figured out when we are still in need of your touch.

We thank you for the friends who have prayed for us and for the sacred times you have hidden us in your presence to heal us. Give us the courage to answer you truthfully when you ask about our state, trusting that you never leave your work half-finished. Touch our eyes and our understandings once more, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Responding to God

Sit with the Lord in quietness and consider these invitations to respond.

Ways to Respond

  • Confess any impatience or pretense you have carried regarding your spiritual growth.
  • Express gratitude that God's ways and timing are higher and wiser than your own.
  • Name a specific area where you need a second touch of the Lord's hand.
