Sermon Companion: Sitting at His Feet
She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to what he was saying.

In the ancient world, sitting at someone's feet was the posture of a disciple. Mary was not simply resting or avoiding work; she was giving her full attention to the Teacher.
Martha's welcome made a place for Jesus under her roof, but Mary's posture made a place for his word in her heart. Both women loved the Lord, yet Mary recognized what was most needful in that moment.
We often assume that our value to God lies in how much we can accomplish for him. The gospel reminds us that Jesus desires our presence and our hearing before our labor.
